SINOVAS (Burgos): Church of San Nicolás de Bari.

The village of SINOVAS, whose main attraction is the Church of San Nicolás de Bari, is located 3 km from ARANDA DE DUERO. On the road we find the hermitage of San Isidro, a simple building of masonry, which has one of the most popular sainsts of our country. The hermitage was founded in the 18th century by the Corregidor Alfonso Colmenero, to spread the devotion to this saint in our locality, since there was still no hermitage devoted to him. Since then, it has become one of the biggest processions and hundreds of citizens of Aranda come every year on the 15th of May to visit the saint and to ring the bells of the oxen according to the tradition.

The Church, with a single nave, consists of three parts that are differentiated by the times they were built. The oldest part is the defensive tower reused as a Bell Tower and located at the foot of the temple. The second, the nave of the church, where we find the beautiful Romanesque portal from the end of the 13 th century. Finally, the third part is the apse of the Church, which was ordered built by the Bishop of Osma, Pedro Álvarez Acosta, in the 16th century.

Inside, the Mudejar coffered ceiling stands out, built in the 15th century and decorated with religious and secular subjects. Another of the fundamental pieces of the Church is its main altarpiece, made by Francisco de Logroño in the second half of the 16th century, in Roman style. Also noteworthy are the ladder for ascent to choir and the pulpit, of Mudejar style, which were made by Sebastián de la Torre around 1522.
